Saint Laurentius church and vicinity in Ename around 1665

The village green has become a rectangular square with only two elements: a pillory and a cross (both are still standing today). The symbolism is very obvious and makes clear that the abbey is ruling the village. On the other hand, the Catholic Church starts a charm offensive in this period and integrates an altar for Our Lady in every church, also in Ename.
