Saint Laurentius church and vicinity in Ename around 1150

The 12th century is a prosperous time for Ename and Flanders. In the abbey, an outstanding Romanesque church has replaced the small abbey church and the monks start building a much larger and exquisite abbey from 1165 onwards. But several disasters are about to happen. The church will burn down around 1170 and the brand new abbey will be completely flooded in 1180.
